The Harlem Renaissance is the setting for Pearl Cleage’s 1995 play, in which the lives of four New Yorkers are interrupted by a new transplant from rural Alabama. Though they live at the dawn of the Great Depression, the characters in Blues for an Alabama Sky confront challenges that are not unlike our own. Cleage is an acclaimed author and Playwright-in-Residence at Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre. Acting professor Kaja Dunn directs.
